Who built this
My name is Alex. I built this tool after seeing how often age calculation errors appear in assessment reports — a wrong test date, a copied birth date from a prior evaluation, or a manual borrowing mistake that propagates into IEP files for years.
The calculator runs entirely in the browser. No data is sent to any server, which matters in clinical and educational environments where student and patient information is protected.
Why this tool exists
Most online age calculators default to today's date. That is wrong for assessment work — you need the child's age on the exact day of testing, not the day you are writing the report.
This calculator accepts any test date, handles leap-year edge cases correctly, and returns the result in years-months-days format that Pearson, Super Duper, and other assessment publishers require.
Methodology
The calculation uses calendar subtraction with correct borrowing rules at each unit boundary — days borrow from months, months borrow from years. February 29 birthdays are handled using the standard clinical convention of treating February 28 as the equivalent in non-leap years.
